The commitment to fostering resilient and prepared citizens was showcased through the Rescue 177 Emergency Management and Water Survival Training held from April 22 to April 25, 2024 at Emilio Aguinaldo College in Cavite with the theme “Equipping the Youth for Tomorrow’s Challenges,” which served not just as an educational exercise but also symbolized the urgent need for disaster preparedness.
Throughout the course, students participated in drills and simulations, focused on emergency handling skills such as water rescue and disaster response, enhancing their readiness and teamwork.
All school systems should require a course on emergency preparedness as emergencies and calamities can strike at any time and it is not only advantageous but also crucial for every student’s safety and well-being to be prepared.
By requiring disaster preparedness as part of the curriculum, educational institutions may provide students with the abilities and information needed to defend themselves and help others in times of need.
Students who get this training develop a feeling of community and responsibility, which equips them to respond quickly and confidently in an emergency, while also giving them lifelong safety skills that they may use inside and outside the institution.
Emilian’s engagement and excitement show that they are acutely aware of the duties that await them as future leaders and first responders, serving as a call to action for all educational establishments to adopt a preparedness and safety culture that extends beyond the classroom and develops abilities that
students can use in their communities.
The Rescue 177 training exercise serves as an example of what is possible when actual life-saving skills become a first priority in the curricula and allows other educational institutions to be motivated by this successful model to develop programs, so that every student is equipped not only with a solid education but also with the skills necessary to meet the demands of an uncertain world.
