UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed emphasized that education is not just a fundamental human right but also serves as the hope and future, while paying tribute to the children of Gaza who have been affected by the ongoing conflicts in Palestine in her speech during the Summit on April 11.

During her speech, Mohammed highlighted two key outcomes, including a clear acknowledgment from world leaders of the urgent need to transform and invest in education as a global priority, and important progress on critical issues like reforming the international financial system, enhancing digital collaboration, and creating a new peace agenda.

Mohammed also stated that investing in education is the most crucial investment for the future, as it contributes to peace, sustainable development, and, particularly, gender equality.

“However, contemporary education systems across the world are beset by challenges, including access, equity, relevance, and digital inequality, which could leave billions of people behind,” she added.

While emphasizing the importance of education at the Summit, Mohammed also acknowledged challenges of access, equity, relevance, and digital inequality that could leave billions of people behind.

Furthermore, the UN Deputy Secretary-General announced that world leaders will gather to develop a new international consensus as a part of the Summit of the Future in September 2024.
